Grow & Create

Are we crafters? Artists? Handyman or handywoman? Not sure yet but as for my crafting, it has allowed me to make all the amazing simple yet cute stuff at home (did I mention I have a toddler who is a fan of Little Einstein and Blippy? And well, it is not easy to find any merchandise at retail stores) or to personalize gifts for my family and friends…or teachers. My goal is not to compete with other talented folks but to have fun and be able to pull off a fun batman cape for my toddler (even if it’s overnight while he sleeps).

I learned about craft plotters or cutting machines in 2017. I had purchased a few items for my then almost one-year-old online and was getting ready to purchase another item when I saw a page that highlighted the Cricut machine. Fascinated by what it could do, I ordered the pink bundle at Joanns.com. It then became my Mother’s Day gift. Soon after, I learned about other cutters such as the silhouette cameo and the brother scan n cut (all pretty great cutters if you ask me).

There are still nerves and questions when I create something, but making time to do what I enjoy is exactly what I have learned to do. I have joined several Facebook groups for guidance and have learned to conversate with ‘strangers’ for a purpose. Who would have thought I would be connecting with an artist from New Zealand or Canada about the art of crafting, not me! The art/craft online community is HUGE, so make good use of technology.

Whether it’s writing, painting or crafting, I want to say that deep down, I have learned that there is more to me than my full-time job. As a full-time stay-at-home working mom, I have been able to express myself creatively through crafting. The creative side of me was brought back to life thanks to crafting.

Whether it’s reading a book, preparing for a marathon or crafting, remember to make time for yourself. My projects or ‘crafts’ are far from perfect in my eyes but not for my toddler.
