Going Back to Our Roots

What in the world are we doing out here in the boonies? On top of that, why are we toying with the idea of farming?

It’s safe to say that our profesional careers took on a life of their own. This has mostly been a positive thing. Afterall, we were both exceedingly blessed with positions that many would long for. However, we share a common trait that neither of us can quench in a 9- 5. We both have very strong creative inclinations and like to work with our hands. Couple this with a bit of counter culture tendencies and a desire for independence from the machine and you have the makings of a modern small sustainable farm.

Digging a little deeper, we recognize we were apples who didn’t fall far from the tree. Our respective families’ history point directly back to an agricultural past. Both of Josué s parents grew up in south Texas and lived much of their lives traveling as migrant farm workers, or as they say, ” en el labor.” Gloria’s mother hails from rural Mexico, where subsistence farming was the way of life. This same story applies to generations before them.

So, in effect, we aren’t doing something unfamiliar or unprecedented, we are simply going back to our roots.
