This year, we had the delight to watch our tulips grow directly from our raised beds. Since we are considered planting zone 7, our flower bulbs were planted in November of last year, and bloomed this spring. Soil in raised bed was prepared, hole was dug at a depth of about 6 to 8 inches, and 100 bulbs were buried.
Truth be told, we didn’t know what to expect and we were not sure of the colors that would grow. The first week of March we saw some growing signs. The weather was warming up a bit, but still chilly. We had some rain and by the first week of April, they were in full bloom.
We were loving the purple, yellow, orange, red and pink colors as we drove in. It was a fabulous mix. Tulip season came and went. Today we are waiting for our tulip leaves to dry off. The question is, should we dig out the bulbs and store them for next year or start with new bulbs?
